Creating ideas can be fun. Exciting even. A fresh list of possibility for new business ideas, places to travel, ways to simplify your life, priorities for the day. Ideas can also be frustrating, or a black hole of unfulfilled dreams. James Altucher is an idea machine and talks about the value of exercising your creativity and idea muscle.

I appreciate James’ discussion on his idea process:

  1. Ideas
  2. Good Ideas
  3. Execution
  4. Doing
  5. Networking
  6. Idea Sex
  7. Future Vision
  8. Monetizing
  9. More Ideas

I think about how many ideas get stuck either in our heads, written on a scratch pad, stored on our iPhone notes app, or just forgotten before we have a chance to write them down. But ideas are powerful and provide an opportunity to express our creativity and, sometimes, the great ideas can be planted as seeds, watered and grow our future.

James promotes creating at least 10 ideas a day and how the cumulative process strengthens the idea muscle. He also talks about writing down the next step to accomplishing the idea, though not necessary, it gives you a place to start on the execution, once you have a good idea And you’ll know when you have a good idea. You’ll be scared.

My ten ideas for the day.

“Ten ways I can be a better person today”

  1. Meditate
  2. Do my most important task first
  3. Say “I love you” to my family
  4. Take a walk (even though it’s 98 degs)
  5. Spend time outside
  6. Be nice to someone for no reason
  7. Don’t sit all day
  8. Be mindful with my family
  9. Have 3 healthy meals
  10. Go to bed by 10pm
